About Me - Reading and Writing Tutor
Hi, my name is Cindy Court Zmuda, and I’m the founder and owner of Anchor Learning Solutions. Originally from Minnesota, with six years of teaching in Wyoming, I came to Alaska on a 2-year adventure over 30 years ago! I retired from teaching Special Education in Alaska after 30 years, and decided I still love helping and advocating for struggling readers, but wanted to use the multisensory reading and writing methods I know work. I also wanted the flexibility to visit my own kids. Family is everything to me, and I love nothing more than spending time with my three grown children, one finishing graduate school for M.S.O.T., and two in college out-of-state. Two labs and one cat complete the family. I love to garden, hike, explore, fish, kayak and just enjoy the great outdoors!
Professionally, I’m a master-level certified Special Education teacher with over three decades of experience working with, and advocating for, students with special needs such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, learning disabilities, non-verbal learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, children on the Autism Spectrum including Asperger’s Syndrome, and other significant learning challenges. I have taught and tutored reading and writing from kindergarten through adult learners, mentored teachers, served as a Literacy Instructional Coach, and as a Resource Specialist for Online Learning for Special Education students. My varied training includes Orton-Gillingham multisensory approaches, and I am a member of the International Dyslexia Association. With experience using a wide variety of proven programs and methods, I teach to the individual needs of struggling readers, writers and those with dyslexia to reach their potential. I’m also trained in and have implemented Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes® programs: LiPS®, Seeing Stars®, and Visualizing and Verbalizing®.

WHY THE ANCHOR?
In ancient times, the anchor was a symbol of safety in the rough seas of life. For early Christians, the anchor symbolized their hope and assurance in Christ : “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” I too, share that hope. Anchors represent hope, stability and safety. That is my mission with Anchor Learning Solutions – to provide hope and confidence for struggling readers and writers as they are given the tools for success!
Anchor Learning Solutions offers far more than tutoring. I am a master-level Special Education teacher and Reading Specialist. Using proven Orton-Gillingham multisensory methods, I can close the reading and writing gap more quickly. If you would like more information or help, I would love to chat with you!
